(ANSAMed) - ZAGHREB, AUGUST 8 - By the end of July, tourism
was up 3.8% over the same period last year, according to
Croatian Tourism Ministry data released on Wednesday.
Foreign tourists in Croatia, pop. 4.2 million, totaled 5.8
million by the end of July. They made 40 million overnight
stays, up 5.4% over the previous year. More Dutch (+21%) and
Germans (+13%) and fewer Italians (-9%) and Hungarians (-8%)
came than last year, according to the ministry.
Government figures projected an overall 3-5% increase in the
2012 tourism sector, on 7 billion euro turnover, equal to 20% of
national GDP.
Croatia's 3.8% increase was followed by Spain at 2.9%, compared
to negative figures for the rest of the Mediterranean holiday
destinations, according to the ministry. (ANSAMed).
