Spain: Government to treat bullfighting as cultural asset

02 February, 16:49

(ANSAmed) - MADRID, FEBRUARY 2 - The Spanish government is to "promote" bullfighting as a cultural asset and will play an active role in national and international schemes geared towards its recognition as "immaterial heritage". This is according to the Minister for Education, Culture and Sport, José Ignacio Wert, who has today been illustrating the cultural action guidelines of Mariano Rajoy's People's Party in Spain's Congress.

Wert also announced the launch of a law on patronage for cultural schemes and the reform of the law on cinema, to combine direct aid to the sector with initiatives to promote a mixed financing model. The government will also provide a new status for Spain's National Library, bringing it in line with the Prado and Reina Sofia museums. (ANSAmed).
