"The financing will strengthen the Food Bank's fund, and help it to recover surplus food and redistribute it for free to those who are in difficulty," Rambaudi said.
The fifth edition of the food collection will take place on Saturday in 343 retail outlets, where 5,200 volunteers will invite shoppers to donate food to the less fortunate. This year the NGO has helped 62,500 people.
"The economic crisis and unemployment have caused a rise in demand for aid in Liguria," said Gabriella Andraghetti, the president of the Bank. Some 65,000 demands have already been made for 2012, leading the president to make an appeal.
