Uprisings: Rome,Egyptian Academy remembers Tahrir revolution

Expos, films and conferences tomorrow and Friday

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JANUARY 23 - Exactly one year after January 25 2011, the start of the uprising at Tahrir Square in Cairo, the Egyptian Academy in Rome also wants to remember the events with two days that are entirely dedicated to the Revolution.

The initiative starts tomorrow at 6 pm with the opening of two exhibitions: a photo expo with photographs of Hossam Hassan - a well-known and appreciated artist in Egypt - and an exhibition of the work of Ibrahim Saad. At the same time a video clip will be shown from '30 Days of Running in the Place', by Ahmed Basiouny, who was killed during the 2011 clashes on Tahrir Square. The video has represented Egypt at the most recent Venice Biennial. Also tomorrow, at 7.30 pm, the film '18 Days' will be sreened. The film was presented at the Film Festival of Cannes and has become one of the highlights of the 64th edition of the Festival. Azzurra Meringolo, writer of the book "I ragazzi di piazza Tahrir" (the young people of Tahrir Square), will also be present at the screening. On January 27, at 10am, the workshop ''The Egyptian revolution: current situation and scenarios for the future'' will kick off. At 6pm a conference will be opened under the title ''Urban re-design and development of Tahrir Square after the revolution'', organised in collaboration with the Architecture Faculty of the 'La Sapienza' University of Rome. In the evening the film "Tahrir 2011: the Good, the Bad and the Politician" will be shown, made by Ezzat, Amin and Salama.(ANSAmed).
