Seven universities from the Campania region, led by Prof. Uberto Siola, are preparing to welcome thousands of delegates, including heads of state, city mayors and experts from 114 countries, who will gather here to discuss the rapid rate of urbanization in the world today, and the way it affects communities, economies and climate change. Local universities are hard at work organizing workshops and events linking Forum activities to the rest of the city.
Students at Federico II University have created a free smartphone application for Forum participants, which will orient them within the event and also act as a Naples tourist guide.
Students will also have access to Forum internships.
Events include 120 networking sessions, 12 round tables, 20 training seminars, and various lectures and exhibitions open to the public. This year's Forum is organized by the UN, the Italian Government, the Campania region, and Naples municipality.
Previous editions have taken place in Nairobi in 2002, Barcelona in 2004, Vancouver in 2006, Nanjing in 2008, and Rio de Janeiro in 2010.(ANSAMed).
