(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 27 - Europe should look more towards
the Mediterranean region, since it is in this region more than
in the northern part of the continent that there are
possibilities for growth and wealth creation. This was said by
Campania region governor Stefano Caldoro in speaking at the
seminar on Italy and the Mediterranean organised by ANSA at the
Italian Foreign Ministry.
The Campania region governor noted the growth in his region's
exports towards the Mediterranean area, underscoring that
Campania has international potential. ''I believe strongly in
the role of regions, but I do not believe that they should
engage in foreign policy by themselves. We have never acted
alone, but in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry. Alongside
Foreign Minister Frattini we sign partnership agreements with
Med countries and we have created the Naples Club, with which we
are working to bring together Mediterranean regions. We are at
the top of the rankings concerning the use of European funds for
the Mediterranean. We are looking towards the Med region, since
here there is the possibility for growth and wealth creation.
There is the need to create an area in which growth is possible.
There must be a European policy which must look at this area and
not only to the north.''
In noting that online communication is changing the new
generations in the Mediterranean, Caldoro said that
''communication in the Mediterranean is the future. As a region,
we want to be leading players in this challenge.''(ANSAmed).
