Yemen: Spadotto is well and going home, says Terzi

Carabinieri officer expected in Italy this afternoon

03 August, 13:54

(ANSAmed) - ROME, AUGUST 3 - Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi says Alessandro Spadotto, the Italian Carabinieri officer released yesterday in Yemen, is well and about to travel back home to Italy. "I just spoke to him", said Terzi. "He is doing well, he is at the embassy in Sanaa and is preparing to return to Italy in the next few hours".

Spadotto, added the foreign minister, "is an Italian who wears the same uniform with which thousands of Carabinieri honour our country not only at home but in many crisis areas worldwide, where they are admired and respected by governments and populations".

Spadotto is expected to land at Rome's Ciampino airport in the early afternoon. Prosecutors in Rome have opened an investigation into his kidnapping and will question him after his arrival.(ANSAmed).
