(ANSAmed) - NEW YORK, FEBRUARY 3 - The UN Security Council has
developed a final version of the Arab-Western draft resolution
that condemns the repression by the Syrian regime of Bashar al
Assad. A vote will be cast on the document within 48 hours. Last
evening the Fifteen sent the text - of which ANSA has obtained a
copy - to the countries in question. So far Russia, which has
veto power in the Council, had opposed the text that was
proposed by the Arab League. This morning Vice Foreign Minister
Ghennadi Gatilova said that since then the text has been
adjusted to several Russian requests - leaving out a reference
to Assad's resignation and a weapon embargo - but not sufficient
to make it acceptable for Russia.
