(ANSAmed) - MADRID, FEBRUARY 3 - King Juan Carlos has received the Moroccan Foreign Minister at Zaruela Palace today. Saadedin Al Otmani then met the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, at Moncloa. The fishing deal between the EU and Morocco, immigration and economic cooperation were the main issues discussed in the talks, according to diplomatic sources quoted by the EFE agency. Madrid is the first European capital to be visited by Otmani, who was appointed in January. The minister will travel to Lisbon tomorrow before returning home.

Spain is awaiting the renewal of the fishing deal between the EU and Morocco, which was suspended in December after the extension was rejected by the European Parliament, but the European Commission was yesterday authorised to re-negotiate the agreement.

The aim of the visit by the Moroccan minister is to consolidate the climate of confidence between the two neighbours, in a new phase of cooperation and mutual respect, the sources said. Following the meeting, Otmani will also talk to his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Garcia Margallo, to identify the priorities to be tacjled in the bilateral summit scheduled after the summer.
