According to the local press, Panetta's visit to Israel is coming shortly after Republican candidate Mitt Romney's, who appears to support Netanyahu politics towards Iran. In July Israel has been visited by several members of President Obama executive: State Secretary Hillary Clinton, her Vice William Burns, and National Security Advisor Tom Donilon.
According to the popular dayly paper Yediot Ahronot, USA's objective is to convince Israel to refrain from attacking Iranian's nuclear infrastructures. Furthermore, Yediot Ahronot affirms that there is still room for maneuvering, either diplomatically or economically with Teheran. Against a lone Israeli attack, Israeli Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, Head of Aviation Amir Eshel and Head of Mossad Tamir Pardo have expressed their thought. Panetta himself stated that Israel hasn't decided whether to attack or not as yet.(ANSAmed).
