(ANSAMed) - PODGORICA, JULY 31 - Parliamentary elections will
be held on October 14, Montenegro's President Filip Vujanovic
said on Tuesday.
The previous parliament was disbanded last Thursday, eight months early. Montenegro must now choose a new majority, whose main task will be to finalize its adhesion to the EU.
EU leaders on June 26 voted to begin adhesion negotiations with Montenegro, which has been independent since 2005. The ruling Democratic Party of Socialists would garner 44% of the vote and the opposition Socialist People's Party would get 17% of votes, according to preliminary surveys. (ANSAMed).
