Suleiman regularly travelled to the States for treatment and lived in the Arab Emirates after his candidature at presidential elections this year was not accepted by the electoral commission as the ex intelligence chief had failed to collect the 30,000 signatures necessary under the law for him to run.

Mubarak relied on Suleiman to negotiate difficult issues with the Israelis and Palestinians. (ANSAmed)
